FAQS

WHAT IS DONORLY RESEARCH?

We are inspired to help small overworked and understaffed development teams use their time efficiently. Through donor research, we can help you take the guesswork out of cultivating new donors and prospects.

We can help you focus on cultivating potential donors who have the capacity and affinity to support your organization. Stop spinning your wheels with prospects who are less likely to join you in supporting your mission.

HOW DOES DONORLY WORK?

We provide a block of research hours each month, you decide how to use them.

Each of our clients is staffed by a team that includes a project manager and at least one researcher. The project manager works with you to design a research plan and timeline. We check in with you at least once a week to let you know how many hours you have used, share any completed research, and discuss any follow-up questions you may have.

WHAT CAN YOU PROVIDE THAT I CAN’T GET BY SEARCHING THE INTERNET?

If you’ve ever googled yourself, you know how much information is available on the internet with just a few keystrokes. If your question is “What does he look like?” or “Where does she work?” you may find everything you need on the internet.

Other information can take more time and requires knowledge of research tools in order to find the answer efficiently and avoid false information and inconsistencies. We help you free up more time for cultivation and solicitation while providing research that is vetted for accuracy and gives you a clear picture of your prospects.

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE RESEARCH?

Some of the things you can do are (1) provide your board members with thumbnail bios prior to a cultivation event to help them work the room, (2) segment your donors into categories such as major gift prospects, bequest prospects, and annual fund prospects–then refine your communications and interactions with each category to turn prospects into donors, (3) upload bios into your database so that everyone who answers the phone can pull up the record and know a little about who they are talking to, (4) identify potential connections between your board and the boards of corporations or other foundations.

WHAT TOOLS DO YOU USE?

We use the full suite of research tools that you would find in any large development office with a full-time research staff.

WHO DOES THE RESEARCH?

Research is a team sport at Donorly.

Your Project Manager will work closely with you to get to know your organization, your needs, and your goals. Everyone on the team has a nonprofit background and understanding of how a development office works and how solicitation is done. We’ve been in your shoes.

The group collaborates on strategy and shares knowledge and training. Our Advisory Board of seasoned research professionals provide advice, expertise, and training.

The team spends every day answering a wide array of donor research questions. We understand what a solicitor needs to know, and we know how to find and communicate that information efficiently.
